Below is a graph of our month-by-month generation.

Our generation for October was 195 kwh, which was over 30 kwh more than the previous year. However, it looks like we will fall well short of last year's total.

The second graph shows our total output per year.

I try to keep this site up to date, particularly with pictures of the children and details of how much electricity our solar panels have generated.

You will find pictures of ourselves and our extended family, together with pictures of our friends and some of the interesting places we have been to over the years.

Our wood burning stove has been put to use a few times so far. Barbara likes to keep warm. Here's a not too clear picture of the wood burning stove in action .

We've just had a new patio put in. Have a look at how it looks .

We had a great summer holiday in Looe, Cornwall . You can look at the pictures here .

I've finally started to add some of the pictures from our 7 month stay in India, as well as photos from our own wedding and Richard and Angela's. Plus there are a few more additions from this year.

On 10th October 2006 our PV solar panels were connected to the national grid and we have been generating our own electricity ever since. Have a look at the Solar Panels page for more detail, including graphs of our monthly and yearly output.

At the start of 2007 I (Matt) set up my own web design business. Check out Top Spin Web Design for more information. Maybe you'd like a website yourself...

These generate electricity. On sunny days we export the excess that we do not use back to the national grid.

Our solar panels were supplied and fitted by the Bristol based company Solarsense. The total cost was £15500, less the government DTI grant of £7000. It will probably take 20 years to pay for itself, but that's not the only reason for getting them. One of the best ways to tackle global warming is for lots of people to make a small reduction to their carbon footprint. Having solar panels does that for us, whilst it also sends the message to others that this is feasible and in the long term it will save us money.

A household like ours would typically use around 4000 kWh per year. We expect to generate around 2500 kWh per year with our 2.8 kW pv array. Our electricity supplier pay us for any electricity we export at their standard rate. We don't currently have an export meter, so an assumption is made that approximately a half of what we generate is exported. In addition to this money, the government have set up a Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROC) scheme. One ROC is issued each year for every 1000 kWh of green electricty produced and is worth just over £30 at present. Hence, we should receive two ROC's each year.

You can find it at www.topspinwebdesign.co.uk .

At present this is only a part-time venture, what with looking after Anton three days a week and Harrison after school. I only have a few clients at the moment, which doesn't generate a great income, but I plan to expand in the future once I have more time.

Please take a look at the sites I've built so far and let me know what you think of them. With each new site I work on (including this one) I'm developing new skills. I'm getting into using PHP and MySQL for my sites, which provides so much more than the old static html sites. I'm also focusing on the accessibility and standards-compliant side of web design, to ensure that as many people as possible can use them and that they look the way I intended on various platforms and browsers.

If you are interested in having a website or you have a site that you'd like redeveloped, then get in touch.
